What You'll Need
- 1/0 AWG or 4 AWG OFC (Oxygen-Free Copper) power wire
- Ring terminals (sized for your wire gauge)
- Wire crimper or hydraulic crimper
- Heat shrink tubing
- Wire cutters and strippers
- Wrench set
- Sandpaper or wire brush (for cleaning ground points)
Step-by-Step Installation Overview
Step 1: Disconnect the Battery
Always start by disconnecting the negative terminal of your battery before working on any electrical connections. Safety first.
Step 2: Upgrade the Battery Negative to Chassis Ground
Run a new heavy-gauge wire from the battery's negative terminal to a solid chassis ground point. Clean the ground point with sandpaper to ensure bare metal contact — a poor ground is the #1 cause of noise and power issues.
Step 3: Upgrade the Alternator to Battery Positive
Run a new wire from the alternator's output stud directly to the battery positive terminal. This ensures your alternator can charge the battery and supply your audio system without restriction.
